Hirschfeld, Hartwig
(1854-1934)
   British orientalist. He was born in Thron, Prussia, and went to England in 1889. He first taught at Montefiore College in Ramsgate, then in 1901 became librarian and later professor of Semitic languages at Jews College, London. His publications include an edition of the Kuzari by Judah ha-Levi, a Hebrew translation of the Book of Definitions by Isaac ben Solomon Israeli, studies of the Koran, and works on Arabic and Hebrew philology and bibliography.
